It is often described as reminding us that ‘I am what I am because of who we all are’. Designed to foster both personal and professional growth, this initiative is a comprehensive pathway for aspiring beekeepers. Each participant is part of a cohort of women that is guided by a seasoned mentor who not only imparts essential beekeeping skills but also shares insights from their successful honey-production business. Going beyond mere provision, our program emphasizes hands-on learning through tailored training and mentorship. Participants in the program receive a robust support package, including essential beekeeping equipment, protective gear, and beehives.
The unique collaboration aspect comes to fruition when beekeepers reach the honey-harvesting stage. At this point, they engage in a mutually beneficial transaction, selling their honey directly to their mentor. The mentor, in turn, features these premium products in her store, creating a sustainable market for the honey produced within the program.
This initiative is not just about beekeeping; it’s about women’s economic empowerment through creating sustainable livelihoods. As participants advance in their beekeeping journey, they also become entrepreneurs and skilled businesswomen. They will not only be selling honey but also wax byproducts, herbs and other agricultural products. This project invests in the future of the rural women of South Africa.
